BACKGROUND
During my time at Walmart Connect, I identified that our creative workflow was being slowed down by inconsistent ouput and outdated production templates. Designers were spending too much time navigating heavy files, dealing with inconsistent expectations, and revising work that could have been approved much sooner. I saw this as an opportunity to streamline and bring more clarity and alignment to the entire process through two major ways: developing a unified supplier guidelines document and updating our production templates. With a team of 15+ designers, critical information was not being relayed consistently, which led to recurring mistakes and frustration on the client side. Stakeholders often repeated the same feedback and felt their needs were not being reflected in the final output. I addressed this by creating a comprehensive supplier guideline system based on the patterns I observed from both client feedback and internal challenges. By consolidating these pain points and translating them into clear, actionable direction, I provided the team with a single source of truth. This resulted in faster approvals, more cohesive creative work, and stronger, more trusting client relationships. At the same time, I led a complete overhaul of our production templates. The primary PSD file was nearly 1 GB (gigabyte) and caused significant performance issues. I rebuilt the file into about 1/5 the size, using a modular structure supported by a main linked smart object and removing low performing ad units. These changes reduced production time to nearly 3x faster than before, improved accuracy across deliverables, and allowed designers to focus on higher priority creative work rather than repetitive manual tasks or waiting around. Together, these improvements created a more efficient and scalable design system that elevated the team’s workflow, increased output, and gave designers the space to produce their best work.
